2019 Chevrolet Blazer First Look

We knew it was going to happen. Chevrolet made the Equinox smaller, so there would be an average hole in the crossbar between it and the full-size Traverse. And talking about making Blazer's name was over for a while.

General Motors finally gave us a glimpse of the 2019 Chevrolet Blazer at an event in Atlanta, but unlike the Blazers of the past, this one is not an SUV vehicle-on-chassis or a two-door and no has no removable roof. Instead, it drives the same C1 architecture as other car transitions, including the Cadillac XT5 and GMC Acadia. One difference: a bigger track with more circumference and character.

The five-passenger crossing comes in three trim levels, including the sportier and heavier RS and the higher-end Premier, both with optional 21-inch wheels instead of the standard 18s. Chevy has tried to give each size a clear appearance with changes to grids and cutouts.

The Blazer name, dating back to 1969, has not been used since 2005, but the auto industry is coming back through a retrofit with other scrapped names, including the Ford Bronco, Lincoln Continental and Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross. Motor vehicles save a ton on advertising when famous names are returned, and they showed them no harm in taking over private vehicles completely different from their original namesakes.

"I do not think there will be a reprint on the name," said Alan Batey, president of GM North America and head of Global Chevrolet. In 2003, nearly 70% of the mid-sized SUV segment was exposed, but today, more than 90% of them are unibody because they want customers. Chevy did not want to stay true to the legacy and the Colorado bakkie is there for those who want their bodies out the window, he said.
The 2019 Blazer has little in common with its predecessor with two doors, but the "Blazer this attitude," said John Cafaro, general manager of Global Design Chevrolet. The crossover has a high tire, a bolder front, two exhausts, and an integrated rear spoiler. The lines are busy, especially the quarter panel with a black waist that moves to the spoiler to create the appearance of a floating roof.

Design Chief Mike Simcoe said no Blazer indicator had entered the design. The goal was to create the character of a blazer with a mix of audacity and sport.

Of the 17 participants in the segment, most offer a third row. The Blazer will not join the Ford Edge, Nissan Murano, Jeep Grand Cherokee and Toyota 4Runner on the glass.

The base engine is 188 bhp 188 bhp 193 bhp four-cylinder, and buyers can choose the 3.6-liter V6 that generates 305 horsepower and 269 pounds of torque. Both are connected to a nine-speed automatic gearbox and have stopping technology. It is not planned to add a hybrid.

An all-wheel drive is also available as an option, including a dual coupling system on the RS and Premier finishes. The Blazer can drag up to 4,500 pounds with the V-6. Select the hitch view to maintaining the link correctly.
